The First Affiliated Hospital of Soochow University, also known historically as Soochow Hospital or Boxi (博习) Hospital, is a premier Grade III Class A hospital - the highest classification in China's public hospital system.
Directly under Jiangsu Provincial Health Authorities, it serves as the key medical center for southern Jiangsu, providing clinical leadership and supervising regional health. The hospital became affiliated with Suzhou Medical College in 1957, evolving to its current name following the 2000 merger forming Soochow University.
The hospital was among the first in China to introduce X-ray machines, advanced surgical techniques, and a female nursing program, expanding with missionary support including Rockefeller funding.
